Welcome to my kitchen!

Hi there, I’m Carmen, a 32-year-old self-taught dessert lover living in the wide, open spaces of Wyoming. I wasn’t born into a family of chefs, but I was definitely raised around flavor—Mexican flavor, to be exact. My parents moved to the U.S. from Jalisco when I was a little girl, bringing along with them stories, music, and recipes that filled our home with love and cinnamon-sugar warmth. And while I never set out to become a chef, I found myself drawn—again and again—to the kitchen, especially when I was craving a bit of sweetness and comfort.
I started small. Tres leches cake was my first real success—well, after three pretty sloppy tries. I remember one early attempt where I forgot to poke holes in the cake before adding the milk, and I ended up with a milky pool and a dry sponge staring back at me. But even that mess sparked something in me. I realized that every recipe, even a failed one, tells a story. And I wanted to learn to tell those stories better.
Over time, I began experimenting with flan, conchas, buñuelos, and my favorite—churros. But here’s the thing: I know what it’s like to have a long day, juggle work or kids, and still want to put something sweet and homemade on the table. That’s why I focus on simple, beginner-friendly Mexican dessert recipes. No fancy ingredients you have to order online, no ten-step processes that require a pastry degree. Just warm, sugary, cinnamon-sprinkled joy you can whip up in your kitchen after dinner while your little ones are drawing at the table or watching cartoons.

Sharing these recipes with other moms, beginners, or anyone who just wants to taste a little slice of Mexico—especially when they don’t have a ton of time—is what keeps me inspired. I believe cooking should be joyful, not stressful, and that dessert can be a daily act of self-care.
So whether you’re trying your hand at arroz con leche for the first time or just looking for a shortcut to the perfect sopapilla, I’m here, apron on and whisk in hand, cheering you on every step of the way. Let’s make something sweet together.
